5:00 Arrive at parking area

 

6:00 Arrive at camping site

 

6:00-8:00 Set up camp and cook, eat and clean supper

9:00-10:00 campfire - discuss Req. #8

11:00 Lights out

 

Saturday - April 21, 2007

 

7:30 - 9:00 Breakfast

 

9:00 - 10:30 - Req. #8 Show that you can find and improvise a natural shelter minimizing the damage to the environment. - discuss during Friday night campfire

 

10:45 - 12:00 - 5 Stations (15 minutes) - Req #4 & 12: Tell what you would do to survive in the following environments:

       Station 1: Req. #4a & 12: Cold & Snowy - led by Scott Elliott

       Station 2: Req. #4b: Wet (forest) - led by Christian Rudd

       Station 3: Req. #4c & 12: Hot and dry (desert) - led by Brian Wilson

       Station 4: Req. #4d: Windy (mountains or plains) - led by James McCleod

       Station 5: Req. #4e: Water (ocean or lake) - led by Matt Brannock

 

 

 

12:00 - 1:00 Lunch

 

1:00 - 1:30 - 3 Stations (10 minutes) - led by Venture

 

       Station 1: Req. # 7a: Tell 5 ways of attracting attention when lost - James

       Station 2: Req. # 7b & 3: Show how to use a signal mirror

                    Describe ways to avoid panic and maintain a high level of morale when lost- Matt

       Station 3: Req. 2: Describe from memory the priorities for survival in a backcountry or wilderness location - Christian

 

1:30 - 2:00 - Hike to Waterfall

 

3:00 - 3:30 - Gather firewood, tinder and kindling

 

3:30 - 6:00 - 5 Stations

       Station 1: Req. # 5: Make up a personal survival kit and be able to explain how each item in it is useful (Brian Wilson lead)

       Station 2: Req. # 10: Explain how to protect yourself against insects, reptiles and bears. (Gary Justice lead)

       Station 3: Req. # 11: Show three ways to treat water found in the outdoors to prepare it for drinking. (Christian Rudd lead)

       Station 4: Req. #6: Show that you can start a fire using three methods other than matches. - Flint & Steel, Magnesium, Magifying glass, Batteries & Steel wool (any other ideas?) (Jeff Holland lead)

       Station 5: Req. #6: Show that you can start a fire using three methods other than matches. - Friction (wood bow & drill) - (John Dorner lead)

 

6:00 - 8:00 Supper

 

9:00 Campfire

9:30 - 10:00 - Church Service - Micah Yowell

 

10:30 - 12:00 - 9 Stations (10 minutes)

    Station 1: hypothermia - Brian Wilson

    Station 2: heatstroke - Scott Elliott

    Station 3: heat exhaustion - Gary Justice

    Station 4: dehydration - Christian Rudd

    Station 5: frostbite - Toby Hutchins

    Station 6: sunburn - Matt Brannock

    Station 7: stings & tick bites - Jeff Holland

    Station 8: snakebite - John Dorner

    Station 9: blisters - James McLeod

 

12:00 - 1:00 lunch and finish packing

1:00 - 1:30 - Hike out

1:30 - 2:00 - Return to FUMC
